George Robinson, second president of the Gainesville Miata Club, was born in Brooklyn, New York. George spent his early childhood in Fort Worth, Texas, later moving to Fort Lauderdale, Fl when he was 13 years old. After high school Officer Robinson floundered around in junior college and worked at Chris Craft, building fiberglass boats. George found concerted direction after joining the Marine Corps in 1967. After four years of service to our country, he was honorably discharged in 1971 at the rank of Captain.

After he left the Marines, George joined the Miramar Police Department where he worked until 1981. He was called to work a week in the 1980 riots in northwest Dade County. His life came to full fruition after he married Jan in August of 1973. Jan and George moved to Ocala in 1981 where George joined the Ocala Police Department. Officer Robinson has experience in most aspects of law enforcement including patrol, narcotics, detective, and undercover. He was undercover for a six-month operation buying stolen property in a video surveilled storefront. In 1996 George was selected to work with the United States Olympic Committee's Security Team Program at the Centennial Olympic games in Atlanta, Georgia. Officer Robinson also believes greatly in mentoring new officers as he has been teaching police recruits since 1983.

His hobbies include spending too much time on the computer, raising numerous species of animals (horses, dogs cats, birds, and several others) and the MIATA. George says, " I have admired the car since it hit the market; and fell in love with it when we got the first one several years ago." A unique aspect of his Miatas have been the ever present Sorcerer Mickey Mouse, from Fantasia, custom painted on their hoods. George's patriotic nature compelled him to change Sorcerer MickeyÕs wand to an American flag. He tells us that the "Mickey Mouse connection stems back to my honeymoon. We went to Disneyworld and have been going back ever since. It is sort of like a safe haven. I go through the entrance and turn three!! I have a ball when we go. We probably have more fun than kids do."
